As a kid I always felt frustrated when my favorite football team didn’t win the Champions League, or when my favorite cyclist didn’t win the Tour de France, or when my favorite NBA team didn’t win the Finals. In retrospective I appreciate the battle each opponent of them brought to the table. Losing is part of life and real champions are born in defeat.
A similar situation occurs in gaming. Often we don’t realize that the present moment is the best it could be. We are blinded by frustration about our teammates, a certain patch that makes your class invalid, jealousy about our competitors and how effortlessly they advance to the finish line. The heat of the moment makes us blind. When you are locked in and totally focused on winning, you stop appreciating the moment. I think with enough experience this shifts, and no matter how difficult a situation presents itself, instead of being wiped out you are suddenly able to cruise through.
